So some stalwarts of common sense in the UK decided that learning basic English and Latin was too hard for people. so Words like "vice versa", "via" and even "quid pro quo" will be banned from use by staff. Because people feel more important if they use those words. seriously...say i'm going via the vending machine somehow implies superiority? Its sad in the modern era, the so called information age, ignorance is tolerated. English was the third language i learned...and i learnt it the hard way...but even then i still use resources like (wait for it) a dictionary when i encounter words i don't know. Often my grammar and spelling is off, but still i contend with mastering the language, and not having some human Rights group try to justify my ignorance. It seems like in this age of information learning is frowned upon. I agree there are immigration issues and the like, but isn't it easier to tell the staff to ensure that people understood what you said. They say using simple English is important for everyone to understand but at what point does English become so simple that you can't get a point across. Anyway I hope this is simple enough English...if not there's a free online resource called dictionary.com that you can look up hard words like "vice versa" yes its a "Latin" word but its in English enough you should know it.
